Quick Change Liquid Energy:An energy drink brand built to hold its own on a retail shelf

Quick Change Liquid Energy is an energy drink brand built by founder Mike Mitchell. With product ready to go to market, the brand needed an identity that could compete with the polished brands next to it on a store shelf.

  • Brand development
  • Can label & packaging design
  • Website
  • Apparel design & production
  • Launch print advertising

The challenge

The original design was plain. It worked as a starting point, but it didn’t stand out, didn’t signal quality, and wasn’t ready to catch a shopper’s eye in a crowded cooler or aisle. In the energy drink category, the can is the pitch. A brand that looks like a start-up won’t win a second glance from a buyer or a customer.

What we built

  • Brand and packaging. We developed a retail-ready look for the can label that grabs attention from a distance and communicates energy and quality at a glance. The brand has a motorsports inspired background, and needed to convey the energy, speed and excitement of the product. We developed new taglines to connect consumers’ adventures to this brand: “Fuel Your Adventure with Quick Change” and “Power Your Adventure with instant energy for high-speed.”
  • Website. We built the brand’s new website to carry the same look and give customers and retail partners a place to learn about the product.
  • Apparel. We designed and produced branded apparel to extend the brand beyond the can and give the team and fans something to wear. We developed hats, shirts, banners and more.
  • Launch print advertising. We designed print ads to support the product’s launch and put the new look in front of customers.
  • A red Quick Change Liquid Energy can standing in green grass
  • The sugar-free Quick Change Liquid Energy can in the blue label, standing beside a can on its side
  • Quick Change website banner: a blue can and branded hat at sunset, the gear and lightning-bolt Q mark, and a sprint car driver in a Quick Change firesuit holding a trophy in victory lane

What came back

After the redesign, the bottler saw the new labels. Mike Mitchell called us with their reaction: “Now this looks like a brand that you can see on a retail store shelf.” That’s the standard we design toward: a brand that looks like it belongs next to the national names.

  • A retail-ready brand identity that earned immediate approval from the bottler.
  • A full brand system carried across packaging, web, apparel, and print.

Why it works

Packaging is the most important piece of marketing for a beverage. By designing the can, the website, the apparel, and the launch ads together, Quick Change launched with one consistent, professional brand across every touchpoint, instead of pieces that didn’t match.
